Hugoye: Journal of Syriac Studies

Hugoye is an electronic journal dedicated to the study of the Syriac tradition, published semi-annually (in January and July) by Beth Mardutho. Published since 1998, Hugoye seeks to offer the best scholarship available in the field of Syriac studies. All articles are peer reviewed and freely available online.

The word Hugoye, the plural form of Hugoyo, derives from the root hgā meaning 'to think, meditate, study'. Hugoyo itself means 'study, meditation'. In modern times, the term has been applied to academic studies; hence, Hugoye Suryoye translates as 'Syriac Studies'.

Printed Edition Subscriptions

In addition to the free online edition, Hugoye is published in a printed (bound) edition once a year. Print subscriptions for students, individuals, and institutions are handled by Gorgias Press. A subscription to Hugoye is also among the benefits of membership in Beth Mardutho.

Hugoye articles are copyright protected and must be treated like any other published articles. They cannot be copied, duplicated, or reproduced by any means without prior written authorization from the General Editor. They may, of course, be cited for scholarly purposes according to the following format:
